From blue sky thinking to handing over the keys!
Blue Sky Days!
The last two days have been a brilliant reminder of what I love about my work and the breadth of what we do at EGC.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining a fantastic group of professionals from across planning, property, design and regeneration to explore how a challenging former industrial site might be re-imagined for the benefit of its community.
A real shackles off opportunity. No preconceived solutions, no boundaries on our thinking. Just a wealth of expertise, creativity and ideas around the table (and out on site!) exploring what might be possible.
Today couldn't have been more different. I had the pleasure of attending the handover of new affordable homes for a valued client. A particularly special milestone as they take delivery of their first new homes.
Two very different days, but both equally rewarding.
From those earliest conversations about what could be possible, through all the challenges of planning, funding, procurement and construction, to the moment when homes are finally ready for the people who will live in them. That's what EGC is all about. Supporting clients from inception to completion, and everything in between.
From big ideas to front door keys.
It the variety that keeps it interesting and so rewarding.

EGC Hosts Successful Housing Survey Drop-In Event in Tarland
Emma and Debby recently spent an afternoon at Tarland Tearoom, hosting a community drop-in event to launch a housing needs and demand survey on behalf of The MacRobert Trust.
The event was a great success, with lots of local residents taking the opportunity to come along, share their experiences and views on housing in Tarland, and complete the survey.
The survey forms part of The MacRobert Trust's wider ambition to deliver 50 affordable homes in Tarland. Understanding local housing needs is an important first step in shaping proposals that respond to the needs of the community, both now and in the future.
It was fantastic to see such a positive level of interest and engagement, with some really valuable conversations about the challenges people face in finding suitable housing locally and what they would like to see in the future.
A big thank you to everyone who came along, shared their thoughts and helped make the event such a success, and to Tarland Tearoom for hosting us!
The survey remains open until 5 November 2026, and we would encourage anyone with an interest in housing in Tarland to have their say. Whether you're a local resident, someone considering moving to the area, or a local employer, your views are important.
The survey can be accessed using the QR codes in the accompanying poster.

EGC Welcomes Debby Gillett as Development Manager
What better day than Scottish Housing Day 2026 to share some very exciting news about EGC?
I’m absolutely thrilled that Debby Gillett has joined me at EGC.
Debby has spent her career in housing, including more than 20 years with SBHA, working across a huge range of roles including housing management, assets, antisocial behaviour and policy.
Latterly, she moved into development, which is where our paths crossed professionally. We worked together at SBHA until I left last summer, so I know first-hand just how much experience, knowledge and skill she brings.
Housing is about so much more than bricks and mortar. The work we do has a real impact on people’s lives, and I think that’s one of the things that makes working in this sector so rewarding.
That’s also why I love today’s Scottish Housing Day theme — Healthy Homes, Healthy Futures. It’s a great reminder of the difference good housing can make, and the importance of all of us working to deliver it.
When I started EGC, it was just me. I always hoped that, in time, it would grow beyond that, so having Debby join me is a really exciting milestone.
I’m incredibly excited to have someone with Debby’s breadth of housing experience on board and I’m looking forward to working together, growing EGC and, most importantly, giving my clients the opportunity to benefit from her experience too.
Welcome to EGC, Debby! I’m really looking forward to what comes next.
And Happy Scottish Housing Day to everyone working across our sector — and to everyone helping to make healthy homes and healthy futures a reality.

Planning Consultation Event - Acredale, Eyemouth
EGC has been back in Eyemouth supporting community consultation on proposals for new affordable housing.
Community engagement is an important part of the development process, but at EGC we believe that meaningful consultation should go well beyond simply meeting statutory planning requirements.
Engaging with residents and local communities at an early stage provides valuable insight, helps build trust and creates opportunities to identify and address concerns as proposals develop.
For housing associations and developers, investing time in genuine consultation can lead to better-informed decisions, stronger community relationships and, ultimately, homes and neighbourhoods that better reflect local needs.
At EGC, we recognise the value of involving communities throughout the development journey, ensuring that local voices have an opportunity to influence the places being created.
After all, the best developments aren't just built for communities – they're shaped with them.

Work Begins on 49 New Affordable Homes in Cumnock
EGC is delighted to be supporting Shire Housing Association in the delivery of its first new-build housing development in 17 years, as construction gets underway at Craigens Road in Cumnock.
The milestone was celebrated with a special sod-cutting ceremony, with children from Netherthird Primary School taking centre stage, joined by representatives from the local community and project partners.
The development, being delivered by Rosewood Homes, will provide 49 much-needed affordable homes on a previously vacant brownfield site in Netherthird.
The new homes will offer a mix of two and three-bedroom properties, including cottage flats, family houses, homes designed for older people and wheelchair-adapted accommodation. The development will provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes designed to meet a range of housing needs within the local community.
The project represents a significant milestone for Shire Housing Association, marking its return to new-build development after 17 years and demonstrating its commitment to investing in the communities it serves.
EGC is providing development project management support to Shire Housing Association, working alongside the wider project team to help deliver the new homes.
We are proud to be part of this important project and look forward to seeing the development progress, bringing much-needed affordable homes to the Netherthird community.
